LIOF Invests in AI to Fight Food Waste with COMPUTD
Regional investment fund LIOF has announced a strategic investment in COMPUTD, a pioneering AI consultancy and tech company, to support the development of their AI-powered sales forecasting tool for bakeries. This collaboration aims to significantly reduce food waste by helping bakeries predict daily demand with far greater accuracy—contributing to both business efficiency and global sustainability goals.
Every day, around 700,000 loaves of bread are discarded in the Netherlands alone. COMPUTD’s AI solution addresses this challenge by analyzing historical sales data to generate reliable predictions, enabling bakeries to optimize production planning and drastically reduce surplus. According to LIOF investment manager Lenn Houbiers, this tool showcases how AI can address critical societal issues like food waste while also driving local innovation.
With the support of LIOF, COMPUTD will accelerate its product development, scale its impact, and collaborate closely with leading bakeries in Limburg. CEO Marcell Ignéczi emphasized how vital it is to have a partner that understands the regional landscape while backing long-term innovation.
